Public Notice of Superintendent Contract Hearing
NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING CONCERNING THE PROPOSED CONTRACT
BETWEEN WAWASEE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AND A SUPERINTENDENT
On May 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Wawasee Community Schools’ Board of School Trustees will meet at 801 South Sycamore Street, Syracuse, Indiana, to discuss and hear from the public support for and objections to the proposed superintendent’s contract, which will be effective from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2029.
Initially Proposed Contract Details
Annual Base Salary: $145,000; Annual Teacher Retirement Fund Contribution: 3% of includable salary
compensation; Annual 403(b) Plan Matching Contribution up to 5% of annual base salary; Annual Group
Health, Vision and Dental Insurance Premium Contribution*: $28,861; Annual Long Term Disability
Premium Contribution*: $420; Annual Term Life Premium Insurance Contribution ($150,000 Death Benefit)*: $96.
* Indicates that Wawasee Community Schools’ contribution may be adjusted if the insurance carrier
increases the premiums for the same level of coverage.
Agreement Length: The proposed contract is for a term of three (3) years. The proposed contract can be canceled by the school board for reasons set out in Indiana statute. By mutual agreement, the superintendent and Wawasee Community Schools can cancel the proposed contract at any time.
Work Days: 260-day Contract. The superintendent receives twenty (20) vacation days and the same number of sick and personal days as teachers receive.
Annual Performance Raise: The superintendent will receive an annual salary increase in the same percentage amount as teachers if the superintendent achieves a rating of “Effective” or “Highly Effective”.
Increases: The school board shall annually review the superintendent’s performance.

Tentative Superintendent Hiring Timeline
- February 2nd - Meeting with the University Search Team for initial training and to plan the hiring process and timeline.
- February 2-9 - Prepare the job advertisement and application form
- February 9th - March 13, 2026 – Advertise opening, accept applications, complete staff and community survey, develop desired superintendent profile based on the community input.
- March 6th – Survey closes
- March 13th – Share survey results
- March 24th – University Search Team meets with Board to present candidates
- April 27th – May 1st – Board conducts interviews and negotiates contract
- May 4th – May 14th – Advertise contract
- May 18th – May 22nd – Hold public hearing and hire superintendent
- May 26th – Negotiated start date for superintendent based on allowing the candidate to honor obligations, commitments and responsibilities from the job they are leaving.
